Wake Up!

We never know we've been asleep until we wake up! It's also true that we never know we've died until we wake up in heaven or hell. In view of this it's vital that we make sure now of our final destination before it's too late.

Jesus spoke about heaven as, "My Father's house, in which there are many mansions" [ John 14:1 ] In 1940 I was camping with other lads in the grounds of a lovely mansion house owned by a wise and good man that we all thought the world of. One morning in the early hours we were awoken by the sound of torrential rain.

Soon water was flowing underneath the tent which began to collapse. We grabbed our soggy belongings and raced to the mansion house where the man re-kindled the log fire and gave us hot soup.

Six years after this event I turned from my selfish life-style and surrendered my life to Christ. One day I noticed these words of St. Paul in the Bible about camping! He said, "We Christians know, that if the earthly tent we live in collapses, we have an eternal house in heaven." [ 2 Corinthians 5:1 ]. As I read this I realised that Paul, who was a tent maker, was teaching us that our bodies are like a tent that will one day collapse but then we will move into God's mansion. How glad I was that I knew the person who owned it!

Recently I was talking to a saintly lady who is over 90 and she's really looking forward to living in her Heavenly Father's House when her tent collapses. Sadly she let 40 years slip by before she trusted Christ as Saviour. If God had not spared her she would have had to face Him not as Saviour but as Judge. What a solemn thought.
