The ONE deadly sin

The Bible never says there are 7 deadly sins but it clearly warns us that even if we've committed only one sin we stand guilty and condemned before God who is absolutely just, pure and holy.  To help us to understand this attitude of zero tolerance we can compare it to some areas in a manufacturing process that must be kept so clean that even a microscopic speck of dust cannot be tolerated.  In a far greater way, heaven is so pure that not a single sin can be allowed to enter in and defile it.  This means that because God is just we are all doomed.  This is the bad news.  [ James 2:10 and Revelation 21:27 ].

Now for the good news, but first of all here's a story.  There was once a judge who had to sentence a man in the dock who was one of his friends.  To the amazement of those who knew about this friendship the man was sentenced to pay the heaviest fine chargeable for this particular offence.  The judge was just, but some called him cruel, until they discovered that after the proceedings the judge paid the fine himself and gave his friend the receipt!

In the death of the Lord Jesus Christ on the cross we see the justice of God our Judge in sending His Son to pay the penalty that our sins deserve.  We also see His kindness because we are guilty and don't deserve any mercy.  Finally His resurrection from the dead is God's receipt to confirm that the price for our redemption has been paid and accepted.

So how can I be put on the road to heaven?

  • Turn away from everything you know is wrong.

  • Trust His sacrifice to be sufficient to wipe out your sins.

  • Take the risen Lord into your heart and let Him map out your life.
