BRING BACK THE BIBLE!

When Queen Victoria was asked the secret of Great Britain's greatness she replied, "The Bible." About 300BC the Jewish Scriptures were translated into the world language of Greek and so they spread from nation to nation. Later over 300 prophesies contained in these Scriptures were accurately fulfilled during the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. This good news led to the writing of the New Testament section of the Bible in Greek. By 300AD all the 66 books of our present Bible were accepted as the word of God. Recently between 1997 and 2002 the United Bible Societies distributed about 3000,000,000 copies of the Bible in whole or part in over 2000 languages!

It's impossible to overestimate the importance of William Tyndale's brilliant translation of the Bible into superb English in the 16th century. At that time the English language was in a pathetic state and was hardly known in other countries. However the 'People's Bible' proved to be the greatest force for making education popular that had ever been introduced to the world. This universal book was the main reason why English has become such a universal language. The Bible became a family book and no home was complete without it! It was the centre of daily family prayers and the first book that children learnt to read. Boys and girls grew up to reverence God and therefore respect parents, people and property.

Around the world no other group of human beings have had a more positive impact on their contemporary culture than those who have been motivated by the Bible. In Britain they abolished the slave trade, improved the conditions of workers in mills and mines and prisoners in jails. They established thousands of charities, hospitals and schools and through their missionary endeavours were the first to care for leprosy suffers. Bring back the Bible!
