The Bible says, “Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall.” [ Proverbs 16:18 ] Happily the opposite to a haughty spirit is a humble spirit. St. Peter wrote , “Be clothed with humility, for God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God.” [ 1 Peter 5:5 ]
Manasseh was a king of Israel who lived a wicked life for 50 years! However when he was carried off in chains to Babylon , he “humbled himself greatly” and the Lord heard his prayer!
