‘Nike’ comes from the Greek, meaning ‘to be victorious’. In the Bible it is often linked with the Olympic Games. This shows us how we can live a life of victory over our evil thoughts, words and deeds which will otherwise one day leave us standing condemned before God. We must take off these heavy clothes of sin and run with patience the race before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the founder and finisher of our faith. He never lost sight of His heavenly reward. He even endured the agony of the cross for us, but now He sits victorious at God’s right hand having conquered death! What a victory! [See 1 Corinthians 15:55]
