Conscience is God’s voice in each of us. It is a moral compass designed to guide us through life’s twists and turns. We can foolishly stifle it, or wisely obey it. Obedience makes us at ease with conscience and brings peace of heart and mind. But disobedience brings dis-ease and sometimes physical disease.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” [Psalm 111 v 10]. This reverent awe of God amplifies the voice of conscience and wakes us up to the seriousness of our sin. If we then turn from sin and ask for pardon, Jesus can grant this because He has paid the penalty we deserve.
