People in Wrexham, North Wales are being invited to ask questions about Christian belief. This week’s question is, “Who is God?”
The Bible says, “God is clearly seen by the things that are made.” [ Romans 1:20 ] We have a clock in our house that is over a century old. We don’t know who made it but we know somebody did. It couldn’t have happened by chance! Recently Antony Flew, a famous atheist, turned his back on atheism. He said, “It’s impossible for evolution to account for the fact that a single cell can carry more data than all the volumes of the Encyclopaedia Britannica.” Many other scholars agree and admit that some form of intelligence must exist behind the design of the universe.
Christians believe that this source of intelligence is God who speaks to us through the Bible. One of many powerful proofs of this is because over 300 predictions about the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus, came true! Yet they were written down 100’s and even 1000’s of years before on scrolls that still exist today. This rules out chance! These prophets must have been inspired by the eternal, timeless God who knew the future.
These ancient predictions are also linked with moral teaching. Now we know that morals cannot come from molecules or from cold mathematical equations, they belong to human beings who were made in the image of God. The voice of conscience within each of us is the voice of God. Conscience is invisible and intangible. No surgeon can cut it out! Yet conscience can turn up the blood supply to our faces and make them blush! Here is overwhelming proof that the intelligence behind the universe is not a robotic mathematician but a moral being so full of love that He sent His Son to earth to die for our sins exactly as forecast.
