WHAT IS YOUR IMAGE OF HEAVEN?

People in Wrexham, North Wales are being invited to ask questions about Christian belief. This week’s question is, What is your image of heaven?

Heaven is a real place and it’s so wonderful that the Bible says, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him.” [ 1 Corinthians 2:9 ]

Because it is indescribable God whets our appetites by naming the things that are not in heaven. There will be no more sorrow, tears, pain or death. And in case we think we might get bored, there will be no more time! We shall live in an eternal, ecstatic present!

Heaven will be an utterly pure place. Scripture says, “Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of Life.” [ Revelation 21:27 ] These are the ones who during their lifetime have turned from their sins and trusted in the shed blood of Jesus, the Lamb of God, to cleanse them from all impurity.

Heaven will be heaven because we shall be at home with our Saviour. Here’s a story to illustrate this. A church minister visited a house where a woman lay seriously ill. The door was open so he went upstairs. Suddenly the woman said, “Please tell me what heaven’s like.” At that moment the minister’s dog bounded in and sat down at his master’s feet. “Now my dear,” said the minister, “My dog has given us a picture of heaven. He’s jumped out of the car window and come in, not to see you or the house, but to be with me, his master!” Heaven will be heaven because we shall be eternally contented with our loving Master the Lord Jesus who died to save us.
