HOW GREAT THOU ART

O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the works Thy hands have made,
I see the stars, I hear the mighty thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee, How great Thou art!

‘How Great Thou Art’ came 1st in the top ten hymns chosen by tens of thousands and sung recently in the Albert Hall by 5000 in BBC Songs of Praise.

Although written by Carl Boberg, a Swede, it was translated into English from a Russian version by Stuart Hines. After 2 verses about creation Carl writes about the cross:

And when I think that God His Son not sparing,
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in!

Later Stuart added this triumphant final verse:

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
