Twelth night on January 6th is called, ‘Epiphany’ meaning the revealing of Christ to the Gentile wise men sometime after the visit of the Jewish shepherds.
The wise men probably travelled along the caravan route from Ethiopia to Jerusalem where they assumed the King of the Jews would be born. When King Herod found out that this threat to his throne was to be born in Bethlehem, he sent the wise men to find out where Christ was so that he could kill him.
As the wise men left the palace they were overjoyed to see the star overhead that they’d not seen since they left home. Soon they were offering their gifts to Jesus who was by now possibly 18 months old. [Matthew 2]
