THE MUG

John gave Jane betting money once a week to put on a horse. Jane was a Christian and hated doing this because Jesus had said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” [Acts 20:35]. She prayed for wisdom and decided to hide the money each week in a mug. It soon built up and she was able to pay him his winnings.

Years later John became ill and the doctor recommended a holiday which he couldn’t afford because of his gambling. Joyfully Jane told him the story and they had a lovely holiday. John too turned to Christ and gave up gambling saying; “It’s a mug’s game”!

Note, history teaches us that gambling ruins families and nations and increases theft and violence.
