King David and his army had been away for ages and now they were marching home triumphantly, looking forward to family reunions and home cooking! To their dismay terrorists had torched their village and David's own men turned against him! [See 1 Samuel chapter 30 especially verse 6].
With no friends on earth David, "Encouraged himself in the Lord." This is how:
1. He remembered God's help in the past.
2. He was encouraged to notice there were no corpses. Things could have been worse!
3. He prayed for guidance.
4. His men forgot their own problems by caring for a sick man who eventually led them to their loved ones.
