GOD CAN CALM THE YO-YO FEELINGS

Sadly many trust in Luck instead of in the Lord. Because of this lack of trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, their happiness goes up and down on a string of circumstances just like a yo-yo! When things are going well they’re up, but when things are not going well, they’re down. The following story illustrates what I mean.

Five men on board a ship in a storm were trying to get some sleep but the ship was going up and down like a yo-yo. In the morning four of them said they were awake all night but the fifth man who was a Christian said he slept soundly. “How did you manage that?” they asked. “Well I remembered these words in the Bible, ‘He who keeps you will not slumber’ [ Psalm 121 ]. Because I talk with my heavenly Father every day I said to Him, ‘There’s no point then in both of us being awake!’ So I went to sleep!”

It’s the most important thing in the world to be adopted by God into His family and to know Him as a loving Heavenly Father. This adoption takes place when we confess our sins to Him and ask Him to forgive us for the sake of His only Son the Lord Jesus Christ who paid the penalty our sins deserved by dying on the cross. Because Jesus rose from the dead He can now live in our hearts and set us free from the guilt and grip of sin when we sincerely turn away from evil.

Many ships are fitted with stabilisers that help them to have a smoother passage through rough seas. God’s Word says, “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee because he trusts in Thee.” [ Isaiah 26:3 ] When we trust in Him he can calm the yo-yo feelings.
