Nearly 2000 years ago, Peter, one of the disciples of Jesus, wrote with great excitement about God’s “exceedingly great and precious promises” that the first Christians were just beginning to discover and to claim for themselves.
God’s promises are superior to human promises because they come to our hearts with power. Our first need is to get rid of guilt, one of the chief causes of worry and depression. This is dealt with when we turn from our sins and believe these words of Jesus. “Most assuredly (I promise you) that whoever believes in Me has everlasting life.” [John 6:47]
God adopts us into His family when we sincerely believe and then we can call Him ‘Our Father’ and claim all His promises that are more valuable than gold.
