At this harvest time many joyful hymns like, “Come ye thankful people come, raise the song of harvest home” are sung at harvest services. Jesus likens the true Christians who love and follow Him to wheat. One day they will triumphantly join the harvest of souls in heaven.
But the hymn strikes this sorrowful note in verse 3, “Give His angels charge as last, in the fire the tares (weeds) to cast.” Many who do not love and follow the Lord Jesus Christ fail to recognise that they will be thrown into the fire that represents hell. Alas for many, hell is just another swear word along the road to hell.
