GOD'S HIGHWAY CODE
I found these words in an old Highway Code, “If we all obey the rules, more precious lives will be saved.” Recently a lady in a local radio ‘phone-in said that we need to get back to the Ten Commandments. How right she was! The Ten Commandments are God’s Highway Code given to Moses about 4000 years ago. If everyone obeyed these simple rules lying, adultery, murder, swearing, stealing and greed would virtually vanish. Sundays would be peaceful days with quiet streets and happy homes. This is not a pipe dream but a description of Britain that I can remember plainly round about the 1930’s.
Another lady on the same programme said, “Mr Jebson taught me the Ten Commandments in his ‘Sunshine Corner’ meeting for children in a local park.” Today I’m still regularly teaching the Ten Commandments in school assemblies. I tell the children that just as they must know the rules to play a game of football, so they must learn the Ten Commandments which are God’s rules that enable us to enjoy a useful and happy life. If they don’t learn God’s Highway Code they will be in great danger like a driver racing through the dark without lights.
Sadly our education system has miserably failed to teach the Ten Commandments and all the other marvellous Biblical wisdom. This laid a wonderfully solid foundation upon which our once great nation was built.
The Bible is the only book that gives us light as we travel along through life. King David who wrote many Psalms said, “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” [ Psalm 119 v 105 ] Although the strict rules of the Ten Commandments show up our sins these can be forgiven when we repent and trust in the sacrificial death of Christ to forgive us.
