The saying, “He must have the patience of Job,” comes from the Bible which describes Job as blameless. He had seven sons, three daughters, great possessions of cattle and was called the greatest of all the people of the East.
Even God was proud of His faithful servant but Satan said to Him, “Does Job fear God for naught? You have blessed him with many possessions but now stretch out your hand against him and he will curse you to your face!” The Lord replied, “Behold, all that Job has is in your power.” Soon a messenger told Job how all his possessions had been destroyed and his ten children killed. But instead of cursing God Job blessed Him! Satan’s test had failed! [see Job chapter 1]
God rewarded Job and gave him back ten more children, twice as many cattle and he doubled Job’s life to 140! [Job 42:10-17]
