Why teach Atheism?

If atheism had to be taught in our schools, here are just 3 samples of the strange things children would be taught.
  1. That nobody created the 100 elements that are the building blocks of the universe.
  2. That by blind chance these dead chemicals became organised into living beings of the most amazing complexity.
  3. That these dead chemicals also programmed moral laws into our conscience.

So let's examine these three points.

  1. It's wonderful that only about 100 elements were required to construct the universe and all living things! This incredible economy displays all the hallmarks of a Designer who knew exactly what He was doing! Nothing was wasted at creation and also billions of recycling processes were set up to ensure the continuance of life.
  2. It is a mathematical impossibility for the super hi-tech DNA computer in every living thing to be programmed by chance. This would require an intelligence of the highest order.
  3. A sense of justice and a knowledge of right and wrong that we all experience through the pangs of conscience, demands the existence of an intelligence that loves good and hates evil.

As the scientists in Apollo 8 orbited the moon at Christmas 1968 they read these opening words of the Bible, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." [Genesis 1:1] They found this statement immensely satisfying because it expressed in simple but majestic words what they felt in their hearts and minds.

Atheism refuses to account for the existence of the invisible information that organises the universe. The Bible says, "The fool has said in his heart there is no God." [Psalm 14:1] The problem is not an intellectual one in his head but a moral one in his heart. He seeks God as hard as a crook seeks a policeman!
