Mothering Sunday
A mother was out shopping with a baby in the pram
with two toddlers dragging behind. A very smartly dressed young
woman approached her from the opposite direction. She had obviously
reached the top of her profession. As she drew near, the mother
recognised her as an old school friend. "Hi," the professional
greeted, "And what are you doing in life?" The weary
mum pulled herself upright and replied, "I'm working in a
partnership for social development. I also spend a fair bit of
time in the department of health, hygiene and food and assist
as a financial controller. What do you do?" "Oh!"
gasped the admiring professional, "I envy you, I'm just a
model."
Motherhood is a top management job but mainly goes
unseen. Here's a story to illustrate how important it is. A town
in America drew its water from springs up in the hills. A man
called 'The Keeper of the Springs' patrolled the hills and removed
rubbish from the springs. One day the town council sacked him
saying, "We don't know how many hours this Lone Ranger is
working!" Soon disease struck the town and the council had
to hastily bring him back.
Mothers should be 'Keepers of the Springs' whose
working hours cannot be counted! Jesus said, "Let the little
children come to Me, and do not forbid them, for of such is the
kingdom of heaven." [ Matthew 19:14
] Dr. J.H. Jowett said, "Our mother put steeples on everything
and made them point up to God. We loved to listen when she read
Bible stories then prayed over us as she tucked us up in bed.
She sharpened our consciences so that they made us sad when we
were bad but glad when we were good. We therefore grew up to be
honest, kind, thoughtful and industrious, just like she was!"
