The Fools Calender
"Tomorrow," is only in a fool's calendar!
Jesus told a parable about a farmer who had a bumper harvest so
he talked to himself and said, "What shall I do? My barns
are not big enough! I know what I'll do, I'll pull them down and
build bigger ones then I'll say to myself, 'You've got many goods
laid up for many years, take your ease, eat, drink and be merry'."
But God said, "Fool! This night you will die and be judged."
It had never entered his head to give food to the poor. He'd filled
his barns with Self and not with God. He hadn't banked up treasure
in heaven, but he had banked on tomorrow which is the mythical
date in the calendar of a fool!
In complete contrast the great and wise Moses humbly
prayed, "So teach us to number our days that we may apply
our hearts unto wisdom." [ Psalm 90:12
] He had given up treasures and a brilliant education in Egypt
because he considered it wiser and more worthwhile in the long-run
to suffer with God's people, rather than to enjoy the passing
pleasures of sin. [ Hebrews 11:24 ]
Wise King Solomon said, "I saw that wisdom
excels folly as light excels darkness. [
Ecclesiastes 2:8 ]. The foolish farmer lived entirely for
pleasure and died in the dark hoping for a bright tomorrow! Scripture
says, "The heart of fools is in the house of mirth."
For them, life is a joke, and their laughter is hollow, "Like
the crackling of thorns under a pot." [
Ecclesiastes 7:4-6 ].
But God's wisdom excels all the artificial pleasures
of earth. Solomon says, "Happy is the man who finds wisdom,
she is more precious than rubies. Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
and all her paths are peace." [ Proverbs
3:13-17 ]. And this wisdom can come to us, courtesy of Christ!
