For 10 weeks every summer the United Beach Mission arranges activities for children and families on the beaches of the UK, Irish Republic, France and Belgium. Teams of dedicated Christian young people organise daily games, singing, Bible stories, quizzes and competitions on the sands. This year the statistics so far make interesting reading. There are exactly 300 female workers and 291 male. Here’s the story of Julie Barrett who was on holiday in Llandudno.
“My marriage had failed so I was glad to be on holiday with my mother-in-law, her friend Olwen and her 2 children and my 3 young children. The first morning we found a spot on the beach which happened to be near the Beach Team meeting. My elder daughter joined in and came 2nd in the smiley face competition! For the rest of our 10 day stay we went to most of the morning meetings and all the afternoon ones. I got talking to various team members about God and asked lots of questions.
“When I returned home I had some helpful booklets to read and I dug out my Bible that I was given when I left school. I also found a church to attend and soon after I committed my life to the Lord Jesus Christ and asked Him to forgive my sins and come into my heart. The prayer I used was from a booklet given to me by the UBM called ‘The Missing Peace’.
“My life has now changed completely, how I think, how I act, how I speak, what I do, in almost everything! I don’t always get it right but now I know that God is always there to help me. He loves me for who I am and Jesus will mould me into the person He wants me to be."
