MY GOD!

When Jesus rose from the dead on the first Easter Sunday, He appeared that evening in a room where the doors were locked and the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews. Suddenly Jesus stood in the midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” He then showed them His hands and His side that had been wounded by His crucifixion. The disciples were filled with joy when they saw the Lord but when they told Thomas who had been absent from the meeting, that they had seen Jesus, he said, “Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”

The next Sunday His disciples were again behind locked doors and Thomas with them when Jesus appeared and said, “Peace to you.” Then He said to Thomas, “Reach your finger here and look at my hands, and reach your finger here and put it into my side. Do not be unbelieving but believing.” Thomas answered and said, “My Lord and My God!” Jesus replied, “Thomas, because you have seen Me you have believed. Blessed are they who have not seen and yet have believed.” [ John 20:19-31 ]

It was good that Doubting Thomas wanted to be certain but sadly he had doubted the words of 10 disciples! Happily his doubting changed to believing. He realised Jesus was the mighty God who had become a man in order to die so that he could be forgiven so he cried, “My Lord and my God.”

It is very serious that many today are breaking God’s commandment by using “My God!” like a swear word. [ Exodus 20:7 ] If you’re guilty, then humbly pray for pardon and surrender your life to Jesus by saying, “My Lord and my God.”
