It’s Harvestime when thousands of thanksgiving services are enjoyed in churches and schools, and this old hymn sung heartily,

“All good gifts around us, are sent from heaven above,
Then thank the Lord, for all His love!”

To suggest that billions of brilliantly programmed DNA molecules in seeds arose by accident, is as ridiculous as saying that our telephone codes were not the result of human intelligence or that the earth’s axis just happened to be at the correct angle to produce the four seasons! The Bible appeals to all sincere people when it simply says that, “God’s invisible attributes are clearly seen by the things He has made.” [ Romans 1:20 ]

God could have given us a balanced diet by making one boring plant! But instead, He lavishly satisfies our appetites with an enormous variety of plants of every size, shape, colour, beauty, fragrance and flavour. These delight our eyes, noses and taste buds! This kind of loving attention to detail must be intentional not accidental. The joy of the Creator is seen in His ability to do anything! Below ground He has designed root crops like carrots. Above ground He has made edible stalks like rhubarb and celery. Also edible leaves like lettuce and edible flowers like cauliflowers! He has also provided delicious fruits and even seeds like peas and beans that we can eat. We can modify seeds but never make a carrot seed produce a turnip! Each seed can only produce its own species. But most amazing of all, a seed can even make hundreds of perfect copies of itself! This is exactly what God said, “Let the earth bring forth the herb that yields seed according to its kind.” [ Genesis 1:11 ] These parameters in nature can never be the product of chance, they are fingerprints of the Intelligent Designer.
