Every Christmas in a variety of ways God displays His amazing gifts free of charge! Sadly however, many people only go window shopping and therefore come away with none of these priceless treasures. So let’s look in God’s shop window and make sure we get what He wants us to have.

Through carols, cards and cribs, millions are brought face to face with the most wonderful news in the world. This is described in the famous carol ‘Once in Royal David’s City’ which tells us that, “He came down to earth from heaven, who is God and Lord of all.” The baby in the manger was the Infinite in the infant! Because Jesus was born without sin and lived a sinless life, He could offer up His unique body as a sacrifice for our sins. This means that in the carol, ‘Hark the herald angels sing’, the angels can indeed sing that “God and sinners can be reconciled” when they repent and receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour. Because Jesus has paid the great price for their redemption, He can now offer them wonderful gifts.

So what gifts does God display in His window? The first is forgiveness. This sets us free from guilty fears that ruin happiness. Other gifts include special promises like this one, “We know that all things work together for good to those who love God.” [ Romans 8:28 ] This is an astonishing promise but millions have proved it to be true. Another very useful promise says, “In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.” [ Proverbs 3:5 & 6 ] This can be a great help when we need guidance about important decisions. So ask God for the greatest gift of forgiveness and He will then add His love, joy and peace - Christmas treasures that money can never buy!
