It’s been reported that a child said, “Daddy, why was Jesus given the name of a swear word?” When I read this I was shocked and horrified that the name of Jesus that stands for everything pure, kind and beautiful was so degraded that even a child was amazed. How terrible that the name of this Saviour who loved us enough to die for us should be associated with the vulgar blasphemy of the gutter. Why should anybody in their right mind pick on the name of Jesus out of all the millions of names on earth and then abuse it so appallingly? There is only one answer to this question and Jesus summed it up when He said, “This is the verdict that Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.” [ John 3:19 ]

Out of about 60 billion people who have walked on this earth the Lord Jesus Christ is the only One who lived an absolutely sinless and perfect life yet they nailed Him to a cross! Shortly before this He said to those who arrested Him, “This is your hour and the power of darkness.” [ Luke 22:53 ] By this He meant that they were being controlled by the arch-enemy of Christ who is Satan. Those who are not on the side of Christ are on the side of Satan for Jesus said, “Whoever is not for Me is against Me.” [ Matthew 12:30 ]

Writing to Christians the Apostle John said, “We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one (Satan).” [ 1 John 5:19 ] This means that one thing is absolutely certain. If a person has truly turned from their sins and trusted Christ as their Saviour they will never ever use the name of Jesus as a swear word
