Here’s a Bible text message from about 1000BC! “Remember now your Creator in the days of your youth.” [Ecclesiastes 12] This chapter reminds us that the human body is like a house that is falling to bits. Do look up the following verses.
· v1-2 The storm clouds of death will gather.
· v3 The keepers of the house will tremble – Our hands that fed, clothed and washed us etc., will become frail.
· v3 Strong men will bend at the knees!
· v3 The grinders are teeth warn away by millstone grit in the flour.
· v3 The eyes looking out of the windows will grow dim.
· v4 The doors are the lips of old people that give a gummy sound as they open and close.
· v4 One rises at the voice of the bird – the elderly are easily awoken and can’t get to sleep again.
· v4 The daughters of music are the voice box and ears that can’t reach or hear high notes.
· v5 They are afraid of heights and terrors on the highways - like climbing steps and crossing roads.
· v5 The almond tree blossoms with white flowers in the winter. So white hair comes in the winter time of life.
· v5 The grasshopper is a burden. Things that were light, now feel heavy.
· v5 Desire to live fails and death comes.
· v6 The writer makes a final urgent appeal, “Remember your Creator” before the silver cord breaks and the lamp of life crashes to the ground and goes out
· v6 Before the circulation of the blood ceases as indicated by the shattered pitcher and the broken irrigation wheel. Note. The circulation of the blood was not discovered until c1628 by William Harvey.
· v7 Finally we return to the dust and, God will bring every work into judgement, including every secret thing. (v14)
