Genesis is the first book in the Bible. Although dated about 4000BC our modern word genes is embedded in its name! It has been called the most amazing book ever written. It describes the creation of the world, and the creation of male and female human beings. It explains the reason why the world is full of sin, suffering and death. It gives the history of the rise of nations. It looks ahead to the virgin birth of a Saviour and provides over 100 word pictures of His life in the famous story of Joseph. [ Genesis 3:15 and chapters 37 & 39-50 ]

Jumping ahead 4000 years to the beginning of the New Testament, Matthew begins the first gospel with these words, “The beginning of the generation of Jesus Christ.” In Greek the word generation is genesis! Just as Genesis describes the cause of evil, so Jesus came to be the cure! Through His death and resurrection, all who turn from their sins and trust Him as their Saviour will be delivered from the guilt and grip of sin.

Despite the accuracy of Genesis many laugh at the thought of the world being created in 6 days. But if God created time He is not under its control and could therefore have created the world in zero time. Just in the same way Jesus healed the lame in no time at all, and they didn’t need 6 months physiotherapy!

Because of the interdependence of everything in nature, creation had to happen quickly, especially because of the billions of male and female species. The human man and woman are complimentary opposites! Never in a million years could these opposites accidentally compliment each other and consummate the union within a crucial window of time. In any case how did these hi-tech complimentary opposites appear if there is no creator?
