THE LAST WORD
The Bible contains 810,697 words and the last one in this wonderful book is AMEN!
Amen is a dynamic little word that solemnly confirms the truth of what has been written. It can be translated “So be it” or “So Shall it be”. When Jesus said, “Verily, Verily I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.” He was actually saying, “Amen, Amen, I say unto thee.” [ John 3:3 ] This very solemn double Amen should make us consider very seriously whether we are on the road to heaven.
In the book of Revelation, the last book in the Bible, Amen is used as one of the names of the Lord Jesus Christ. Chapter 3 verse 14 reads, “These things says the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God.” The Apostle Paul also confirms this when he wrote, “Christ came who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen. Thus proving that Jesus Christ is God.” [ Romans 9:5 ]
There is nothing uncertain about Jesus Christ in the Bible. All the preaching about Him was described in this way, “Our preaching was not Yes and No but in Him was Yes. For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen…” [ 2 Corinthians 1:19-20 ] The Apostle Peter describes the hundreds of promises of God as “Exceedingly great and precious.” [ 2 Peter 1:4 ] To illustrate this, a year ago I lay in hospital with e-coli the killer bug. I remember finding great comfort by reminding myself of the promise, “We know that all things work together for good to those who love God.” [ Romans 8:28 ] I don’t know why God allowed me to get it, but I recovered and was amazed to find the horrible vertigo attacks I had endured for a long time had vanished. AMEN!
