NO SINGLE PEOPLE IN HEAVEN

Recently I conducted the wedding of an elderly widower and widow.  This happy occasion reminded me of these words of the Apostle Paul, “The woman who has a husband is bound by the law to her husband as long as he lives.  But if he dies she is released from the law of her husband so that she can be married to another man.” [ Romans 7:2 ]

Paul is saying that when the husband dies, so does the law!  This introduces the best news in the world for those who have broken God’s laws and haven’t we all!  But how could a just God cause the law to die?  He would surely be as guilty as a hopeless judge who lets everybody off! It’s here we see God’s amazing grace.  Out of love for sinners He sent His only Son down to earth.  Being born of the virgin Mary He was not polluted by sin and He lived a sinless life.  This meant He could fully satisfy all the demands of God’s holy law and pay the penalty our sins deserved by dying on the cross.

Writing to those who had turned from their sins and trusted Christ as their Saviour, Paul said, “You have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, so that you may be married to another - even to Him who was raised from the dead, that you should bear fruit to God.”  [ Romans 7:3-6 ]

It can be truly said, that there are no single people in heaven, because every person who has received Christ as Saviour is married to Christ!  But how can this be if Christ is dead?!  But remember, we are married to Him who was raised from the dead!  True, we are free from the law’s condemnation but now with God’s love in our hearts we love to keep all His laws.
