THE DEBT CULTURE
Our national financial problems are mainly due to banks greedily lending unwisely to those they knew could not pay them back. A Bible text message says, “Owe no man anything except to love one another.” [ Romans 13:8 ] When people ignore these ancient principles there is always trouble. Borrowing sensibly is not wrong, but Scripture says, “The wicked borrows and does not repay.” [ Psalm 37:21 ] Those who behave like this are crooks!
Strangely there is a happy way of being in debt! The Apostle Paul gladly boasted, “I am a debtor!” [ Romans 1:14 ] He meant that he lovingly owed everybody the wonderful news that Jesus came down from heaven to wipe out our debt of sin caused through us not paying God the perfect obedience that was His due. He paid this debt by living a perfect life and then dying on the cross on our behalf to satisfy the justice of God. Three days later He rose from the dead, and His resurrection is the receipt to show that when we repent and trust Him as our Redeemer, we are forgiven.
Because Jesus rose from the dead and is alive today, He can enter hearts and set them free not only from the guilt of sin but also from its grip. This article has been published so that you may come to experience God’s love, joy and peace in your hearts. If we kept quiet we would be as bad as a scientist who discovers a cure for cancer but keeps it secret.
Jesus said, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel...” [ Mark 16:15 ] Today, millions are responding to the good news through every conceivable means of modern communication. Jesus forecast that His gospel would reach all nations before He returns to earth.[ Matthew 24:14 ] Do make sure you’re ready!
