I'M NOT RELIGIOUS
Some people say, “I’m not religious” yet they keep their fingers crossed! They are superstitious and have an unreasonable fear of something unknown. This is completely opposite to the genuinely religious who gladly allow their lives to be ruled by the known and living God and not by unknown ‘ghosts’.
When Paul the apostle was in Athens he stood on Mars Hill and said, “Men of Athens I perceive that in all things you are very religious … for I even found an altar with this inscription, ‘TO THE UNKNOWN GOD’. Therefore the One whom you worship without knowing, I proclaim to you: God, who made the world … gives to all life and breath and all things … so that we should seek the Lord … and find Him, though He is not far from any one of us.” [ Acts 17:22-27 ].
God is indeed near to us! He has written His religious rules in the conscience of every human being. An atheist may deny God’s existence but cannot escape the voice of conscience. Conscience is invisible and weightless and therefore cannot be explained by evolution or detected by a microscope or classified in the human genome. It was obviously designed by a just and righteous Creator in order to help us keep on the right lines. If the devil had designed it, he would have made us happy if we do evil and miserable when we do what’s right.
We admire players who religiously obey the rules of sport but no matter how religious we are we cannot keep God’s Ten Commandments. The good news is that although we deserve hell Jesus came to be our substitute. He paid the penalty we deserved by dying on the cross. We should therefore religiously turn from our sins and ask for pardon.
