AS SIMPLE AS A-B-C
The gospel is as simple as A-B-C but so many people are D-E-F! Perhaps many turn a deaf ear because they think that ‘gospel’ is a very gloomy, religious word! But nothing could be further from the truth because the word ‘gospel’ means ‘good news’! If anyone thinks the Christian religion is miserable they only need to switch on Songs of Praise on TV to hear the most joyful singing in the world. They will also sometimes hear people from all walks of life describing the peace and happiness Jesus brings into their lives.
The A-B-C of the gospel gives three steps upward to a personal experience of God. The first step shows how we all have within us the malady of sin then the next two steps show how Jesus can heal the malady and put a melody in our hearts!
A The Bible says “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” [ Romans 3:23 ] The expression ‘Come short’, means ‘To miss the mark’. Because God’s standard is perfection, and heaven is therefore absolutely pure, even if we commit only one sin it will prohibit us from entering in.
B “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.” [ Acts 16:31 ] This means that if I believe that Jesus loved me so much that He died on the cross for my sake in order to pay the penalty my sins deserve then I will be saved (rescued) from the condemnation of sin.
C “If you Confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” [ Romans 10:9 ] To confirm that you have repented of your sins and sincerely trusted in the risen Christ as your Lord and Saviour you must tell somebody.
