2009

Many like to think that when they enter 2009 it will wipe out all their mistakes so that they can begin the New Year with a clean sheet.  This fairyland thinking in the year of Charles Darwin’s bi-centenary is similar to the present day evolutionary theory that everything originated in an explosion of nothing!  It’s not surprising that the British Humanist Association has launched their ‘Atheist Bus Campaign’ with this pathetic poster on buses, “There’s probably no God.  Now stop worrying and enjoy your life.”  This will make Christians rejoice that atheists are beginning to think there may be a God.

Sadly Darwin’s ideas wrecked the Christian faith of many people although he himself was never an atheist.  At the end of his ‘Origin of Species’ he wrote that, “In the beginning life had, been originally breathed by a Creator into a few forms or into one.”  He was also most impressed by the arguments in William Paley’s book, “Natural Theology” who argues convincingly that design in the living world proved the existence of a Creator. Darwin was also very impressed by the power of Christianity to transform ‘savages’ in Tahiti and South America.  He wrote in his diary, “The march of Christianity through the South Seas probably stands by itself on the records of the world.”

In the light of Darwin’s firm belief in Creationism it is disgraceful that atheists are destroying Britain’s historical tradition of freedom of speech by forcing scientists who believe in Creation to be sacked.  Recently Professor Michael Reiss, a biologist was forced to retire as Director of Education at the Royal Society because he said that creationism should be discussed in science lessons if pupils raised the issue.

‘Probably there’s no God’ says the atheist.  But for a happy New Year read and believe John chapter 3 verse 16 in the Bible and you’ll experience God’s love, joy and peace.
