THE TSUNAMI

The Tsunami has melted millions of hearts and generated the most wonderful global generosity. Doubtless much good will arise even out of this disaster and although many wonder why God allows such things to happen they will still pray to Him.

Prayer is a gift from God to all human beings. However sometimes it takes a tragedy to make us unwrap this priceless gift and use it. It’s sad when we tend to use God like a dentist and only run to Him in trouble. The Bible says we should, “Pray without ceasing.” [ 1 Thessalonians 5:17 ]. Obviously not always with words! Words can be useful to express our prayers but they are not essential. True prayer comes from the heart. It is better to have a praying heart without words than wordy prayers without heart.

And now a few words to those who find natural disasters a hindrance to their faith in God. Jesus said, “You will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” [ John 8:32 ] When we reverently study the Bible we shall come to know the truth about God that will set us free from doubts. The Bible tells us that God created the world perfect but when man disobeyed God; even nature became distorted. Weeds grew, and storms, earthquakes, disease and death blighted the earthly paradise. For centuries people offered animal sacrifices to atone for their sins but then God sent His Son to make a final sacrifice so that all who turn from their sins and trust in His death will be forgiven.

One day Jesus will make a spectacular return to earth. Christians can see the signs of His coming and are looking forward to the day when there will be a new earth which will be a permanent paradise. This is a glorious hope!
