The book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ is the final book in the Bible. The word Revelation comes from the word apocalypse and this Greek word appeared in many newspaper headlines at 9/11. Apocalypse means unveiling and many theologians believe that the truths expressed in this book of symbols will be unveiled as the events draw near. An example of this is the vision of the Four Horsemen in chapter 6. These are ominously introduced with a voice like thunder. Space only permits us to examine two of the horses.

The first horse is white and the rider goes forth conquering and to conquer. This horse has continued galloping down the centuries and this confirms the words of Jesus that there will always be wars with, nation rising against nation.

The second horse is fiery red and was able to, take peace from the earth and cause people to butcher one another with a great sword which in the Greek means a heavy knife used for sacrificing animals. Following the recent terrorist attacks in Jordan, the King commented that there is now no peace anywhere on earth. The second horse has now overtaken the first! No longer do armies confront one another in orthodox battle lines. Today the enemy is the hidden terrorist who religiously, as if with a sacrificial knife, delights in brutally shedding innocent blood. 9/11 marked the full unveiling of the terrorist. Peace has indeed been taken from the earth exactly as foretold by Jesus in the book of Revelation. [See also Matthew 24:5-8 and Luke 21:5-11]

Does this all sound gloomy? Not if you have turned from your sins and trusted Jesus Christ as your Saviour! To all these He says, “When these things begin to happen, look up, for your redemption draws near.” Only when He returns as the Prince of Peace will wars cease. [Luke 21:27-28]
