A barber was cutting a customer’s hair and they were putting the world to rights. The man said, “If everyone loved God they’d love one another.” The barber stopped snipping and said, “Look here, I don’t believe God exists, He wouldn’t allow so much unhappiness in the world.” The man thought for a moment and decided not to start an argument.
The barber finished his job but just as the man stepped out onto the pavement he saw a man with long, dirty, untidy hair and beard. The man dashed back into the shop and said to the barber, “D’you know what? Barbers don’t exist!” “Don’t be stupid,” said the barber, “I’m here, and I’m a barber.” “No!” the man exclaimed, “You don’t exist, because if you did there would be no people with long, dirty, untidy hair and beards like I’ve just seen on the street.” “But I do exist!” insisted the barber “And this is what happens when people don’t come to me.” “Exactly!” said the man. “That’s the point, God does exist but so many people never go to Him, that’s why there’s so much unhappiness.”
Let’s consider the words, “I don’t believe God exists.” As a wise old man said to an atheist, “If you haven’t searched the entire universe you can’t truthfully say that God does not exist.” Happily in the light of greater scientific knowledge more people are logically believing in intelligent design as St. Paul described nearly 2000 years ago! [ See Romans 1:20 ] Sadly though, they illogically prefer not to believe in a designer! They forget that every human being has moral laws programmed into their conscience. It would be madness to say that this moral ability to distinguish between right and wrong can have evolved from molecules. Morality can only come from personality - that is God, the great Creator and Designer!
