WATER IS LIFE!

Water is life! Every living thing depends upon it and about 60% of the human body is water! Man has failed to find any significant amounts of water anywhere else in the universe yet 70% of our planet is covered with water, thus making it unique.

Water is different to virtually all other liquids. These become denser as they become colder and so sink to the bottom. Water on the other hand, grows denser as the temperature falls to 4%C but then it suddenly starts getting lighter so that the ice floats on top! If this were not the case all living things below the surface would die. How could such a wonderful process have happened accidentally?

The Bible says this about God. “You visit the earth and water it.” [ Psalm 65 v 9 ] How true that only one creator could have so accurately designed the sun to soak up water from the earth. Also the clouds to carry the precious droplets across the land, and the moon to produce the cleansing tides. It’s not surprising that in times of drought people instinctively look up to heaven and pray for rain.

Rain should always be gratefully received as a precious gift from God. Sadly only 4% of all the rain that falls on Britain is collected, most of this life giving liquid goes down the drain! Urgent measures must be taken to ensure that we always have a supply. The government should subsidise water butts and encourage householders to collect water from roofs. I know a man who uses a water butt to supply his downstairs toilet. Better still, long fibreglass troughs could be designed to fit under eaves in order to supply water for toilets or hosepipes. Filters may be required but this would present no serious problems. Let us treasure and use our wonderful water with great care.
