If mankind was improving and the world was getting better the Bible would be wrong! For centuries, starry eyed optimists have believed that Utopia could come through human endeavours alone but the Bible has always said that this will never happen.
It’s obviously right to work for world peace but sadly multitudes have ignored God’s Word which says, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” [ Psalm 33 verse 12 ] It also lays down this principle which states that, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” [ Proverbs 14:34 ] If God’s principles are ignored by politicians or people, there can never be peace. John Wesley, one of the great gospel preachers in the 18th century, brilliantly summed up the cause of Britain’s problems in one word, “Godlessness.” He was proved correct because through gospel preaching the whole moral tone of the nation began to improve.
Global Godlessness in the days of Noah brought the judgement of a global flood because the world had become corrupt and full of violence. [ Genesis 6:11 ] Thousands of years later Jesus confirmed the historical fact of the flood and foretold that at the end of time, when He returns to judge the world, the earth will be just like the days of Noah, full of violence and wickedness. [ Matthew 24:37 ] What an exact description this is of today’s world! But what a challenge it is to obey Bible teaching because no-body can deny it is true.
Finally, for another amazing description of today’s world read this passage in 2 Timothy chapter 3 beginning, “Know this, that in the last days perilous times will come.” But all is not doom and gloom! For those who love and follow Christ they can look forward to Him coming and the creation of a new earth that will be the home of righteousness not wickedness. [ 2 Peter 3:1-13 ]
