Every honest person knows that God’s 10 Commandments are good. Up to about the end of the 19th Century children learnt the Commandments by heart so there was not the serious lawlessness we have today. Sadly successive governments yielded to atheistic and commercial pressure and relaxed the Sunday trading laws. By so doing they committed the fatal mistake of breaking one of God’s laws. In this case it was the ancient commandment that goes back to creation and says, “Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy.” [ Genesis 2:3 and Exodus 20 ] The result was that gradually thousands of Sunday Schools closed and millions of children that were being taught right from wrong free of charge were left without any knowledge of God’s moral laws or the purifying power of Jesus.

In the days of Queen Victoria, Benjamin Disraeli wisely said, “The religious observance of Sunday is the cheap defence of a nation.” Today his words have come true as the yobbish behaviour of youngsters who were never taught the rules is costing the nation millions.

When Queen Victoria was asked the secret of Britain’s greatness she replied, “The Bible is the secret of Britain’s greatness” and she had plenty of history to confirm this. When our present Queen was presented with the Coronation Bible in 1953, these words were spoken, “We give you this book, the most valuable thing this world affords. Herein is wisdom, this is the Royal Law, these are the lively oracles of God.”

In the Bible we read these words, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.” [ Proverbs 14:32 ] In the light of the 10 Commandments Britain is flagrantly breaking all God’s laws so we cannot expect him to bless us as He did when we were, generally speaking, a Godly nation.
