JOSEPH

Through the BBC show, “Any Dream Will Do”, a nationwide talent search is being made to find a new male lead for Joseph. The first production of ‘Joseph and his Technicolor Dreamcoat’ in 1968 based on Biblical history, has become the most enduring and endearing show of all time. Do read this gripping story in the world’s oldest book of Genesis in the Bible. See chapter 37 and chapters 39-50.

The history of Joseph about 1500 years before Jesus, has been called, the history of Jesus in Joseph! Joseph was not sinless like Jesus but he became the saviour of his people by rescuing them from a famine in Canaan and providing a home for them in a beautiful part of Egypt. This reminds us of Jesus who came to save us from Hell and to provide a home for us in Heaven. [ John14:2 ] There are about 105 Bible references like this in the history of Joseph that point us to Jesus. Here are 2 more examples. Joseph was sold by his brothers to some merchants for 20 pieces of silver. They then sold him as a slave for probably 30. Similarly Jesus was betrayed for 30 pieces of silver by Judas one of his own disciples.

Here’s another picture of Jesus. Joseph’s dreams forecast that one day his brothers would bow down to him. When Joseph told them this they laughed at the very idea - but about 22 years later it happened! Nearly 2000 years ago the Apostle Paul wrote, “At the name of Jesus every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.” [ Isaiah 45:2, Philippians 2:10 ] The Apostle Peter forecast that before Jesus returns to earth the second time there will be scoffers – just like Joseph’s brothers! What a terrible shock they will have!
