HOW TO AVOID BREAKDOWNS

“Flat Battery” is top of the AA list of 10 reasons for car breakdowns. When one of our daughters was little she would sometimes fling her arms around us and say, “My battery’s run down!” This meant she was tired and ready for bed, but next day she was re-charged like a power tool and full of life.

In a similar way to a car, our bodies rely heavily upon electrical energy. The electrical circuits in a car have thousands of connections but this pales into insignificance compared with the human brain. This only weighs about 3lbs but has 23 trillion connections! The mathematical probability of such awesome complexity coming about by chance is virtually zero. There must have been a previously prepared pattern so that this greatest of all computers could be constructed in the workshop of the womb in complete darkness in only nine months!

It’s very wonderful that about 1000BC, King David in Psalm 139 described poetically, but accurately the formation of a baby in the womb. The Hebrew for verse 15 says that we were, “embroidered in the depths of the earth.” Embroidery is accomplished by following a pattern which in the womb is programmed by our DNA molecule. The phrase, “the depths of the earth” was an ancient figure of speech used to describe a very inaccessible place, which in this case is the womb. 3000 years later, despite all our knowledge, we still have to admit that great mystery surrounds the birth of a baby and the centre of the earth!

Cars often break down because their Manual is not followed. The Bible is our Maker’s Manual designed to re-charge our souls along life’s bumpy road. Guilt and worry are a frequent cause of breakdowns but Jesus can rescue us from both.
