INFORMATION

The late Sir Bernard Lovell, one time Astronomer Royal, said, “If the universe began with a big bang there must have been a plan at the bang!”  Any uncontrolled explosion would have produced chaos, yet the universe displays a wonderful orderliness from the stars to the intelligence possessed by every living thing from the honey bee to the human being.

Information is not made of chemicals so cannot have evolved.  We can fill our brains with it but they get no heavier!  We can delete it from a CD-ROM but it gets no lighter!  This global information which governs all the laws of nature controls the life processes in every living thing explaining why we have a balanced environment.  Even on a human level we can make nothing from a spade to a space-ship without information.  Similarly a bird can only know how to construct a nest by information programmed into its brain.

It’s reasonable to ask where all this invisible information came from.  In 1968 the astronauts on Apollo 8 read from the oldest book in the world as they circled the moon, “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth … and God said, Let there be light.”  He had the power to send out the correct information and there was light! [ Genesis 1:1-3 ]  Centuries later the Apostle John threw more light on Genesis chapter 1 when he wrote, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God, all things were made by Him and by Him was not anything made that was made.” [ John 1:1 ]  The amazing thing is that the Greek word for Word is Logos which means, information!
