THE BIBLE AHEAD OF ITS TIME
I’ve been reading the Bible for over 60 years and have no doubt that it is the Word of God, partly because it’s so often ahead of its time. For example it says, “Weep with those who weep.” [ Romans 12:15 ] It’s only recently been discovered that when someone is upset, tears release toxins from their body so that after a good cry they feel much better!
A law of hygiene from 1300BC says that clothing and bodies should be washed in running water, not in a basin where germs collect. It’s obvious they didn’t know about germs but God did! It’s amazing that it wasn’t until 1960 in America that instructions were given to hospitals that hands must be washed under running water. [ See Leviticus 15:1-13 especially verse 13 ]
With hospitals in mind, it’s good to read [ Proverbs 17:22 ] , “A merry heart does good like a medicine.” Hospital patients were often only allowed to have very few visitors but doctors now recognise that they tend to get better quicker when they’re cheered up by visitors.
Do look up [ Deuteronomy 23:12 ] and there you will find a sensible method of sanitation using a spade. If only this had been believed and copied it would have avoided the stench and disease in our towns, centuries before the construction of sewers during Victorian times.
Finally, millions have died because people did not believe these words from 1300BC, “The life of the flesh is in the blood.” [ Leviticus 17:14 ] For thousands of years blood was looked upon as one of the four bad humours in the body. In 1799 the USA president George Washington stayed too long out in the cold and got a sore throat. Immediately his doctor examined him and started letting off blood. Eventually he bled off 126 ounces and the President died aged only 68! Today we put blood in!
